消渴小便利淋病脉证并治第十四

Chapter 14, Thirsty, hard urine

厥阴之为病,消渴,气上冲心,心中疼热,饥而不欲食,食即吐蛔,下之利不止。

If it in Jueyin stage, if the person feel very thirsty, feels air-pushing up to the heart, burning pain in the chest, very hungry but has no willing to eat, and vomit worm after eat. He also has continuous diarrhea after a bowel-cleansing therapy.

(This paragraph tells the main parameter for the diagnosis of Jueyin stage. The meaning of the thirsty here is different from the thirsty in various other disease conditions. So it should not be listed here).

寸口脉浮而迟,浮即为虚,迟即为劳,虚则卫气不足,劳则荣气竭。

(This paragraph should be in weak and Lao disease, not here)


趺阳脉浮而数,浮即为气,数即消谷而大便坚,气盛则溲数,溲数即坚,坚数相抟,即为消渴。

If the pulse felt on the front of the feet is floating and frequent, it is Stomach Fire, so the person feels hungry and eat lot and the stool is hard. Overwhelming Qi exhausts the water, so the urine is frequent. The thirsty, hungry, hard stool and frequent urine all indicate the Xiaoke disease. [1]


趺阳脉数,胃中有热,即消谷引食,大便必坚,小便即数。

(This paragraph is the same meaning as above one).

男子消渴,小便反多,以饮一斗,小便一斗,肾气丸主之。

If a man feel terrible thirsty, drinks lot, and urine a lot too, his urine is as much as the mount of drinking, the condition belongs to Xiaoke, use Shenqi Wan.

 
肾气丸方

(Shenqi Wan: see version for women disease).

脉浮,小便不利,微热消渴者,宜利小便,发汗,五苓散主之。

If the pulse is floating, the person feels hot (but no sweat), feels difficult in the urine, slight hot and heavy thirsty, the principle in the treatment is the urine therapy and sweat therapy. Use Wuling San.
 

五苓散方

(Wuling San, check the version for Water-accumulation)

脉浮发热,渴欲饮水,小便不利者,猪苓汤主之。

If the pulse is floating, the person has fever (and sweat), feels thirsty and drink lot of water, has difficult in urine, use Zhuling Tang. [2]

Zhuling Tang

猪苓(去皮),茯苓阿胶滑石泽泻各一两

Zhuling 15 gram, Fuling 15 gram, Ajiao 15 gram, Huashi 15 gram, Zexie 15 gram

右五味,以水四升,先煮四味,取二升,去滓,内胶烊消,温服七合,日三服。

Add the herbs (except the Ajiao) and 1000 ml water into a herbal pot. Bring to boil and keep in mild boiling until there is 500 ml herbal tea left. Remove the reside, add the Ajiao in and stir to melt it well. Drink one third of the tea each time, three times a day.

渴欲饮水,口干舌燥者,白虎加人参汤主之。

If the person feels thirsty and want to drink water, feels dry in mouth, use Baihu jia Renshen Tang.

白虎加人参汤方

渴欲饮水,水入则吐者,名曰水逆,五苓散主之。

If the person feels thirsty and wants to drink water, but has vomiting after drinking, the condition is called Reverse-water, use Wuling San.[3]

渴欲饮水不止者,(不口干舌燥),文蛤散主之。[4]

If the thirsty continues so that the person drinks water again and again, use Wenge San.

文蛤  五两[5]

Wenge 78 gram


右一味,杵为散,以沸汤五合,和服方寸匕。

Grind the herb into powder. Drink 1.5 gram each time with the help of 75 ml of boiling water for swallow.


小便不利者,有水气,其人苦渴,栝蒌瞿麦圆主之。

If the person has difficult in urine, it is a Shuiqi condition[6]. The person also feels annoying thirsty. In this case, use Guolu Jumai Wan.  

栝蒌瞿麦丸方

Gualugen Jumai Wan


栝蒌根(即花粉)二两,茯苓三两,薯蓣二两,附子(炮)一枚,瞿麦  一两,

Gualugen (Tianhuafeng) 30 gram, Fuling 45 gram, Shuyu 30 gram, Fuzi (processed) 30 gram, Jumai 15 gram.

右五味末之,炼蜜丸梧子大,饮服三丸,日三服。不知,增至七八丸,以小便利,腹中温为知。

Grind the herbs into powder and make it into pills with honey, a size of 0.5 cm in diameter. Drink 3 pills each time, three times a day. If the person has no healing effect, increase the number of pills to seven to eight each time to make the urine easier. The healing effect means warm in the abdomen.

小便不利,蒲灰散主之,滑石白鱼散,茯苓戎盐汤并主之。(小便不利不渴)

With difficulty in urine, use Puhui San, Huoshibaiyu San, or Fuling Rongyan Tang. (The person should have no thirsty).

蒲灰七分,滑石三分

Puhui 7 parts, Huashi 3 parts.


右二味,杵为散,饮服方寸匕,日三服。

Grind into powder, drink 1 gram each time, three times a day.

白鱼散方

Huashi Baiyu San


滑石
二分,乱发(烧)三分,白鱼二分

Huashi 2 parts, human hair (burned) 3 parts, White color fish 2 parts.


右三味,杵为散,饮服半钱匕,日三服。

Grind into powder, drink 0.7 gram each time, three times a day.


茯苓
戎盐汤方

Fuling Rongyan Tang


茯苓
半斤,白术二两,戎盐弹丸大一枚

Fuling 125 gram, Baishu 30 gram, Rongyan 1 badge (1 cm in diameter size)


右三味,以水五升,煮取三升,分温三服。

Add the herbs and 1250 ml water into a herbal pot. Bring to boil and keep in mild boiling until there is about 750 ml herbal tea left. Drink one third of the remaining tea each time, three times a day.


淋之为病,小便如粟状,少腹弦急,痛引脐中。

It is a Lin disease [7]if the person’s urine looks as a rice soup and he has spasm pain in the lower abdomen which attracting to the naval.


淋家不可发汗,发汗必便血。

With the Lin disease, the person should not be given a sweat therapy. Other wise, he will have bleeding in stool.



[1] The clinic condition for a type I diabetes is included in the Xiaoke disease here.

[2] Pay attention to the difference in the conditions for the Wuling San and the Zhuling Tang. For Wuling San, the person is mild hot without sweat; for the Zhuling Tang, the person has fever and sweat.

[3] There is water accumulation in the stomach, so the drinking water cannot go down but reverse up to vomit.

[4] If the person feels thirsty, drinks water but vomit the water, it is Wuling San condition. If he feels thirsty and dry mouth, it is Baihu jia Renshen Tang condition. Here, he feels thirsty, but no vomiting or dry mouth, it is Wenge San condition.

[5]文蛤也叫五倍子.

[6] The water is accumulated in the urine bladder. The person should have no fever and the pulse is deep.

[7]There are different Lin disease in TCM: the stone Lin disease (kidney or bladder stone), the blood Lin disease (there is blood in the urine), Wet-Hot Lin disease (kind of infections in the urinary tract) and Qi Lin disease (mostly pain in the urine tract).
